How To Get Rid of Your Laptop? (TIPS LET GO LAPTOP)

Is it time for you to get rid of your old laptop? One advice: do not just throw it into the trash. That old laptop could still be worth some money. Or you could recycle it, at least. But don't forget to effectively wipe clean all the data in your laptop.

Back Up

It is always a good idea to have a physical back up. Backup drives are affordable these days and most are just plug-and-play.

De-Authorize

Do not forget to de-authorize any services that limit how many devices you can run their services on such as iTunes, Adobe Creative Suite and more.

To deactivate iTunes, open up the application, click on Account and then click on Deauthorize This Computer.

To deactivate Adobe Creative Suite, open the program, click on Help, then click on Deactivate and lastly, click on Deactivate Permanently.

Clean and Restore

Do not simply drag all your files and folders into the Recycle Bin. You have to wipe the disk clean. Both Windows and Mac OS include utilities that let you delete your files and restore the disk to its original state.

To Reset a Mac

1. Make sure the machine is plugged in and you are connected to the Internet.

2. Restart the Mac.

3. Hold down Command + R as it boots.

4. Select "Reinstall Mac OS X" from the menu that pops up.

To Reset a Windows Laptop

1. Swipe down from the right edge of your touchpad to reveal Settings.

2. Click Change PC Settings.

3. Click Update And Recovery at the bottom of the list.

4. Click Recovery. You aren't really trying to recover anything. Ignore Microsoft's poor word choice. This reveals the "Remove everything and reinstall Windows" on the right side of the page.

5. Click Get Started because  you want to remove everything.

6. Click Next when prompted to Reset Your PC.

7. Select "Just remove my files" if you plan to give the computer to someone you trust because that process is much faster. If you're going to sell or recycle it, click "Fully clean the drive," which takes a lot longer.

Sell

You can now list it on eBay or Carousell or any online shops.

Recycle

Recycle your laptop. Don't trash it. For your information, discarded electronics harm the land, water and air. Microsoft has a list of recycling facilities for drop-off. If there is none near you, just visit your local recycling facility and drop it off there. Reminder: be sure to clean your hard drive even if you are recycling.
